Friday Night, Do you know where your cardiologist is?

Well it’s been a busy week. Dennis is on call this weekend and if the weekdays are an indicator it’s going to be a hopping weekend for Dr. Dunning. We had a lull in the action at our house the past couple of weeks but don’t tell Jeff the drywall mudder I said such a thing.

Jeff the tough mudder

Look at his cool stilts! He is single handedly smooth dry walling our home. He has been working and working and working. Evidently not too many people in the west do smooth dry wall and he is working hard.

This week has been fun because our big windows are in!!

And Jim our handy craftsman at 4725 East Stallion Dr has stained and is installing our ceiling on our back porch. That is my cute boyfriend checking out the windows and the progress ūüėČ

The ceiling is going to be beautifulNow that the windows are in the dry walling and stucco-ing around them can resume and we press on!

I’m excited about our update. It is great to keep looking forward to being settled soon and unpack our boxes piled in the garage. It will kinda be like a birthday!

Well, I just got the call that my knight is heading up the mountain. We are then off to the Hualapai Mountain Lodge for dinner.

Sunny in Kingman ~ Susie

Gus and I are enjoying the breezy, 87 degree day out here on the high desert mountain.

I am such a dreamer. If only this, if only that. How about, “if I would just do?” I have a beautiful setting, a husband who provides security, love and encouragement. My job is just that, to do my job.

So here I am out on this lovely patio writing and working. Hebrews 9:13 gives a list of old testament examples of sacrifices used to purify us, only to point to verse 14 (from the Message) which says; If that animal blood and the other rituals of purification were effective in cleaning up certain matters of our religion and behavior, think how much more the blood of Christ cleans up our whole lives, inside and out. Through the Spirit, Christ offered himself as an unblemished sacrifice, freeing us from all those dead-end efforts to make ourselves respectable, so that we can live all out for God.

All I can do is be obedient and He produces something I could have never imagined.

So my book is coming! I am quenched in the desert and loving every minute of it.My recreation! Who would have guessed!?

Last game of the season tonight. It has been fun and I’ve made many new friends.

Washed in the Blood and so very thankful ~ Susie

Gus Very Attuned to Josh Turner

My frivolous story of our bright and adorable Gus.

This morning at my feet

Dennis calls me everyday on his way home from work. Just to tell me he’s on his way. About a month ago I changed his ring tone to Josh Turner’s song “Would You Go with Me?” In case you want to listen.  Fitting for this adventure we are living.

When Dennis gets home he meets Gus at the pantry to share an assortment of mixed nuts. Gus has a very sensitive stomach and can’t eat dog treats so he enjoys mixed nuts and lettuce for his treats :).

They both take pleasure in the routine.

Yesterday I was sitting quietly writing, Gus of course was curled up at my feet and my phone was in the kitchen. Well, Josh Turner began singing in the kitchen. Gus ran to the phone doing his¬†It’s time to pay attention to me dance.¬†I spoke briefly to Dennis and looked over and Gus was sitting very straight panting away, waiting next to the Pantry!

You gotta love dogs and their keen minds! Just thought I would share about mine. He’s so cute.

Loving Life ~ Susie

Summertime and the Livin’ is Easy

John 14:12-14 NKJV “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

v 23-26 NLT¬†Jesus replied,¬†‚ÄúAll who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.¬†¬†Anyone who doesn‚Äôt love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.¬†¬†I am telling you these things now while I am still with you.¬†¬†But when the Father sends the Advocate (Helper) as my representative‚ÄĒthat is, the Holy Spirit‚ÄĒhe will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Jesus asks so little of us, Believe, Obey, Love. This whole 14th chapter of John speaks of how much we are cared for. Ask, obey and love Jesus, that means you love His Father and therefore He will send His Holy Spirit to teach us. We just have to LISTEN and obey and do.

Oh please listen, love Him and ask Him.

I am celebrating the Joy of the Lord.

There are so many twists and turns and uglinesses (is that a word?) in this world but Jesus is on our side. This is a great team to belong to. Just DO IT! Walk with Him, talk with Him, ask Him, keep His word.

Feeling so Loved ~ Susie

Quite a lot

Sorry folks, it’s been 12 days since my last post. Wow, a whirlwind of terrific things happening all at once. Like this….and this….

Joy of my life..

And the icing on the cake…..

The wedding was splendid, I believe the bride and groom had the day of their dreams. I got to meet Angela, got to know Pete better, spend alone time with Samantha and Erin and a grand baby sleepover. We saw Pure Michigan at her best; sunny skies, green grass and trees, summer flowers in full bloom, Lake Michigan never disappoints showing itself bright and bold for Brett, Angela and Zoe and last but not least, lawn games.

We are back to the western high desert and fulfilled. We are so unbelievably blessed by God. He has sanctified us and I celebrate our family and give God all the glory!!

Proverbs 20:7 says; The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.

My dreamy husband chooses life. He makes decisions based on truth, God’s truth and because of that we have an abundant life surrounded by children and grand children.

Weddings and Such

Yep, that is a big happy face on my girl. We spent the day doing wedding things. Going to get her marriage license was top priority ūüôā

I love where I live, I love the life Dennis and I have here, I love building our home and next chapter here on the mountain. Not being in the same town as Samantha as we plan her wedding is brutal. Planning Samantha and Pete’s wedding is splendid!

I flew home to Kingman on Sunday during Memorial Day weekend. As I was flying home I thought, “This is the first time I have been so content with leaving Samantha.” She now has a date, a friend, someone with whom she can make plans.

I’m thankful. Continually believing God’s plans for our lives. He is faithful, we just need to be obedient.

Heading for a busy and fun week!

Thankful ~ Susie

Below the Rim

Dennis and I wandered to the Grand Canyon Saturday for our first, hopefully of many adventures below the rim. We hiked the Grandview Trail which is a “not maintained” trail east of the National Park. We were unsure; the trail is listed as “difficult” in the national park service website. The website also says the hike back up from the 3000 ft altitude drop will take twice as long. Our fledgling hike was about to begin well equipped with sunscreen, hats, new camelbacks and walking sticks, we began our decent.

The trail was surely rocky

God’s handy work, He put steps in for us. As I’m walking down these stairs, I imagine the thousands of animals who have worn this before us. It is truly fascinating.¬†

Dennis stayed put while I hiked so you could see the path and distance to the next switch back.

Of course what goes down must go back up! Wow, wow. I have to say, physically it is easier climbing up than going down. Cardiovascularly it is breath taking¬†going up :-0 By the way, isn’t he cute?

This is just a beautiful shot from the Coconino Saddle which is at mile 1. We met a woman who guides and she told us not to believe the “twice as long going back up” advice from the hiking guide. She said that was for teenagers who cruise fast down the trail. It would be equal amount of time. Because it was our first time we didn’t want to push it, we did not hike the entire 3 miles to the Horseshoe Mesa, we thought we would hike 2 hours down and see how long it took us up. So we dropped in elevation 3000 ft along the path to the Horseshoe Mesa then turned back. Well she was right! It took us just under 2 hours to hike back up. Listen to experience, I guess ūüėČ

God and all His wonder is evident every step of the way.

Psalm 145:4-6 One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
And on Your wondrous works.
Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts,
And I will declare Your greatness.

Promises Promises

April 1986 I sat in the radiology department at St. Mary’s Hospital with Dr. Hartman by my side facing yet another procedure to remove the ill-formed tissue from my uterus. Instead of a baby I had a mass of tissue which gave all indication it was a normal pregnancy until the 20th week of growth.

After the second D & C in one year I was beside myself wondering if I would ever have another baby. I was so happy I had Samantha, my beautiful three-year old daughter. I really thought I would have many children not just one. Life at that time was so full of turmoil and pain, my marriage ended and Samantha and I were a small family just the two of us surrounded by so many who loved us. We had years of ups and downs and heart ache and many victories. I faced the fact that having any more children was probably out of question.

In 1996 Dennis and I married. We discussed, briefly ūüėČ having another child, at this time Samantha was 12 years old an only child of a single mother.

The beautiful promises of God happen right under our noses as we are pushing through life not even realizing He has delivered. Maybe it wasn’t the way the little girl playing with Barbies fantasized but it is the fulfillment of a promise and dreams that came true.

Number 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”

See, On December 7, 1996 I had know idea the plan that was being set before our feet. Sure I believed I was marrying the man of my dreams. The family that God was creating is far greater than I could have ever imagined. On December 7, 1996 I became the step mom/other mom to Brett and Erin Dunning. We became a family of 5.

Brett, Samantha and Erin are all so different and add so much joy to my life. Oh God is so faithful, I love them so much.

All I know is that at age 23 having two miscarriages, an ugly marriage falling apart and a three year old daughter looking to me to forge the way into a scary mixed up world, I had know idea at 48 years old I would be so incredibly blessed with three children, two new wonderful sons to add to the mix and lets not forget about Zoe Girl and Carter.

I can’t say it better than the psalmist Psalm 34:4-10

I sought the Lord, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him,
And delivers them.

 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Blessed beyond belief ~ Susie

Emotions gone wild

What a week. Wedding, New Home, Kingman, Grand Rapids, Texas, Tennessee wow.

I have gone quite a while without a picture of my Zoe Girl. Really missing her these days. I feel a skype date needed in Texas. On the Tennessee front; Carter was in his car seat while I was talking to his mom today and as soon as she said, “Josh”. On Que Carter was in the background saying, “Dada!” Oh be still my heart. Fortunately for all of us Samantha and Pete are getting married right around the corner and we all get to spend some much-needed time together.

Samantha and Pete plow through this prenuptial time. The rest of their life is coming up quick and they are full board on. It makes my heart so happy to hear Samantha talk about the commitment and the things they are learning from videos they are watching, premarital counseling with one of our favorite married dynamic duos and experiencing life.

My struggle with being separated from Samantha while planning her wedding is eased by my friends picking up the slack. Micki, Kirsti and Cindy are the epitome of true friendship and unconditional love that God gives.

On the home front, my contractor team (they will now be always mentioned in the plural) The Humphries, Doug and Teri have skillfully supported me through decision making here on my own. They are building one beautiful home, they are artists with a touch of counseling ūüėČ

A lot going on above the ceiling in the master bedroom.

Dennis and I feel we are home. We have settled into a church family. We are both greeting for the services and we are making friends in and around the Kingdom of God here in Kingman, AZ. Oh and I think I mentioned I am playing on the co-ed softball team and for the first time in my life hit the ball past, yes I said past 3rd base!!

Ha, this is the front yard, which faces the Northeast

I am so unbelievably nurtured by our heavenly Father. I am in awe of how mindful He is of me.

Psalm 8:3-5When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Wedding Plans and Building Houses

Dennis and I woke up early, flew to Sedona and hiked in the beautiful red rocks in search of wildflowers. Well after last week and making Dennis stop so I could photograph every flower, I was out to photograph wildflowers, D was out to hike amongst them.

Oh the blooms did not disappoint!

They just kept coming, so many colors, such beauty.

See him from afar!? I told you, he was there to hike and I could snap photos if I wanted but he wasn’t waiting! He really does love my reindeer games.

How could I resist this agave just ready to burst?

Or this agave with it’s tall bloom?

The Yucca’s were having a hard time standing straight, their blooms were full.

I think Sedona is a place where God really shows off! I kept singing, “How lovely is Your dwelling place, oh Lord Almighty… Better is one day in Your courts.”

Amazing among these overwhelming towers of red rock stands this tiny little beauty shining to give us a morning greeting.

Splashes of color every where you turn. “There are so many colors in a flower so let’s see every one!” ~Harry ChapinThey look like dandelions a little. Dots of yellow strewn all over the red makes for a cheery walk.

Hiking and these wondrous blooms and the sounds of the birds singing their welcoming songs was just what my heavy heart needed. Oh how I would love to be in the midst of Samantha and Pete finding an apartment or be by her side while she goes to pick up her dress and picks out shoes. The pain is sometimes sickening.

Lavished with God’s creation and His promises I see the treasure in our life. “Our’s” meaning Dennis, me and our children and grandchildren. We choose Christ. In doing that I know we will all be blessed. ¬†I cherish the time I do get with Samantha and Pete and hold them so dear. So I will press on, enjoy this new world and count the days until I get to be immersed¬†in wedding bliss!
